T-DMB is an advanced version of European Digital Audio Broadcasting that incorporates MPEG-4 Multimedia technology. T-DMB runs on networks of transmission towers and gap fillers, while S-DMB works on networks of a satellite and gap fillers

[Figure 1. The concept of T-DMB

T-DMB can provide seamless and high quality audio, video and data services in a vehicle moving up-to 200km/h. The DAB(Digital Audio Broadcasting) services can be provided with the same T-DMB system, because T-DMB is based on the Eureka-147 DAB standard. Commercialized T-DMB devices can receive not only T-DMB multimedia signals but also DAB audio and date signals. The video service is optimized for 2-7 inch screens, but user can still enjoy it via about a 15 inch screen of laptop of desktop PCs. Data services such as news, stocks, and weather information can be also provided with T-DMB.
Type Quality Technology
AUDIO CD quality stereo MUSICAM(MPEG-1,2 layer2)
MULTIMEDIA Video 7"display MPEG-4 AVC(H 264)
Audio NearCD Quality MPEG-4 BSAC
DATA Many application MPEG-4 BIFS
Multiplex A/V/D MPEG-SL, MPEG-2 TS
Channel Urban RS(204,188), Convolutional Byte interleaver
DATA EPG, new, weather, stock, traffic information, etc. PAD, NPAD, TDC, MOT, BWS, IP-tunneling, SildeShow, etc.
AVC : Advanced Video Coding, PAD : Program Associate Data, TDC : Transparent Data Channel,
BWS : Broadcasting Web Site, BSAC : Bit-Sliced Arithmetic Coding, BIFS : Binary Format for Scens

T-DMB uses MPEG-4 AVC (Advanced Video Coding), BSAC (Bit-Sliced Arithmetic Coding) and BIFS (Binary Format for Scenes) as the encoders for video, audio and contents-related data services. All of these encoded results are multiplexed into MPEG-2 TS packets. To increase the mobile reception capability of the audio, video and data contents, an additional channel coding scheme which includes RS (Reed-Solomon Coding) and convolutional interleaving is used for the FEC(Forward Error Correction). Then the channel coded TS packets are transmitted through the Eureka-147 stream mode.

[Figure 2. The system of T-DMB
An ensemble containing the encoded audio, video and stream can be configured as the following picture. Any service in this ensemble can have the audio, video and data stream as its service component as well as all the other traditional Eureka-147 audio and data components.
